Investigation of the electronic behaviour of the AnT(Ga1-xlnx) systems (an=U, Transuranium and T a d transition metal)

Status

Terminated - Planned from January 2005 till June 2006

Goals

This joint research project finds its background in the basic investigation of the properties of the 5f electrons in the solid state (including their behaviour in alloys and compounds). In particular, the objectives of this project are:

  • to determine the stability of the actinide 1:1:5 phase, doped with ln, and to characterize its physical properties;
  • to determine the interrelationship between the structural parameters and the electronic properties in PuCoGa5, and related compounds;
  • to identify and to characterize new ternary An-T-ln phases, to determine their electronic properties, and to search for new 5f electron compounds with heavy fermion and electron correlated behaviour.

Expected results

The results of this joint research project contribute to the understanding of the electronic structure of the actinide elements and compounds. They will be applicable to the 5f electron elements, particularly those located at the Mott transition (Pu, Am).
