Actinide selective recognition by bio mimetic molecules
Status
| Terminated |
- Planned from September 2006 till March 2008 |
Goals
The goal of this joint research project is to observe metallobiomolecules (acting as elaborated inorganic complexes with well-deigned metal active sites) to understand selective complexation and transport of actinide elements. In particular, this joint research project will focus on the simple peptides that are known to chelate or transport Fe(III) as potential “smart“ actinide chelates. The main purpose is to:
- define the chemical affinity of each available amino acid of the MBD for An(IV) cations;
- evaluate cooperative effects originating from the secondary and potentially tertiary structure of the protein.
Expected results
The results of this joint research project will contribute to the knowledge of the transport and interaction mechanisms of actinides with biological-like chelates. This expertise is essential for the rationalisation of molecular interactions and associated chemical mechanisms, of which radioprotection and decorporation from the human body (or from the geosphere) are target applications.
