Actinides and lanthanides solution chemistry in water stable Room Temperature Ionic Liquids
Status
| Terminated |
- Planned from October 2006 till April 2008 |
Goals
The aim of this joint research project is to study the fundamental aspects of solvation and reactivity of actinides (U, Np, Pu, Cm) and of one lanthanide homologue (Eu) in Room Temperature Ionic Liquids (RTILs).
The research will occur under various oxidation states (Cm(III), Np(III), U(IV), Np(V), U(VI), etc.), by means of different techniques in conjunction (electrochemistry, EXAFS, UV-vis, TRLFS etc.) and in comparison to simulation studies.
Expected results
Within the field of nuclear waste reprocessing, RTILs are considered to be potential solvents in which unusual complexes and chemistry could be achieved. The results of this joint research project will enable a wider, more effective evaluation of the RTILs and their utilisation in An/Ln electrochemistry or future An partitionning schemes. The data will also help to focus future research on the selected RTILs.
