Workshop on Actinide Speciation using XAFS
Status
| Terminated |
- Planned from March 2006 till March 2006 |
Goals
Funding is requested for graduate students and post-docs and lecturers to give a workshop on actinide speciation using X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS). The workshop will be held at FZK-INE and include a visit to the microXAS beamline at the Swiss Light Source (SLS). This workshop is planned to be the first in a series of workshops to be held on a rotational basis at INE, ROBL, PSI, and later MARS. Application for funding for these future workshops will be made accordingly.
Expected results
This workshop theme is actinide speciation using synchrotron-based X-ray absorption techniques. The objective is to train graduate students and post-docs, actinide science’s future young scientists, to be proficient in planning and conducting actinide XAFS speciation experiments, as well as in evaluating and interpreting the resulting data. The chance to make initial contacts with world experts in the field will provide the workshop participants with a future forum encouraging discussion and cooperation.
