4th Workshop on Speciation, Techniques, and Facilities for Radioactive Materials at Synchrotron Light Sources, Actinide-XAS-2006
Status
| Terminated |
- Planned from September 2006 till September 2006 |
Goals
Actinide-XAS-2006, as its predecessors, will provide a forum for teaching and scientific discussions focused on applications of and results from synchrotron-based techniques in radionuclide/actinide sciences. Specific objectives are: • presentation of actinide research based on a wide range of synchrotron techniques (X-ray absorption spectroscopy, high resolution inelastic X-ray scattering, resonant magnetic soft X-ray scattering, surface diffraction, and micro-focused fluorescence analysis) • presentation and discussion of latest results, update reports on the facilities available for performing active synchrotron experiments and orientation of newcomers • bringing together a coherent group of workers already active in the field • bringing together newcomers to the field of synchrotron-based actinide research • involving and encouraging young researchers • involving and encouraging participants from the New Member States
Expected results
The funding we are applying for is for direct support for young researchers. Having young people take part in the forum will necessarily have an long term impact in actinide research, which underpins the field of nuclear fission energy.
Actinide-XAS-2006 is an international forum for learning and scientific discussion in synchrotron-based actinide research. It will therefore both strengthen existing transnational cooperative scientific networks throughout Europe and associated states and establish new collaborations. In light of the shortage of young researchers, particularly those with synchrotron experience, and especially those with competence in nuclear fields, a clear and specific aim of the Actinide-XAS-2006 workshop is to attract newcomers and thus achieve a positive long-term impact.
