Very Heavy Metals 2006 Conference

Status

Terminated - Planned from March 2006 till March 2006

Goals

The principal aim of this conference, which is the third in a tri-annual series, is to bring together, for a period of a few days, experimentalists and theoreticians who are studying complexes that contain heavy atoms. We (theoreticians who are members of the Laboratory of Quantum Physics) have already participated actively in other networks and meetings that were concerned with these complexes, but in those cases the stress was laced on the complicated effects that are linked to the phenomenon of relativity and its consequences. We therefore wanted to initiate these meetings between experimentalists and theoreticians which are essential if the subject is to progress.

Expected results

Generally, the outcomes expected can be considered at several different levels.
Scientifically, we anticipate:
- The encouragement of exchanges between senior experimentalists and theoreticians;
- The possibility for younger research-workers to mix with a diverse community;
- The initiation and development of new collaborative projects, etc.

On the long term:
- the Midi-Pyrénées region, and Toulouse in particular, play an important role in theoretical studies of these heavy elements, and maintain good relationships with other regions which are equipped with special experimental facilities, such as the CEA research centre in Marcoule.
This meeting will be
- the expression of the scientific quality of the research undertaken in southern France, by means of conferences such as ours and those such as ATALANTE, for example, organized by the CEA, can only reinforce our position at the European and international levels.
