7th SPCA and 38th JdA

Status

Terminated - Planned from April 2008 till April 2008

Goals

In a joint venture, ILT&SR-Wroclaw, ITU-Karlsruhe, the Charles University-Prague and ITN-Sacavem, are proposing to organize the 7th School on the Physics and Chemistry of Actinides and the 38th Journées des Actinides to be held in Wrocław, Poland, 10-12 and 12-15 April, 2008, respectively. Funding is requested for students, postdocs, and young scientists to attend both the school and the conference, as well as for lecturers to partly support their presence at the school.

Expected results

Expected impact on applied issues in the field of nuclear fission energy

The series of bi-annual SPCA and annual JdA is a part of general effort for sustaining and increasing knowledge of actinide science. It addresses, in general terms, a serious European problem – the continual loss of expertise in this vital area. Contacts and exchanges of students between the participating organizations (PhD, Post-docs, etc) and definition of collaborative projects may be the major outputs of the meeting.

Expected impact on long term integration

The JdA+SPCA series plays a strong role, as the major meeting of the interdisciplinary type, in integration within EU and with non-EU countries. It is a basis for promotion of networks and centre of excellence (e.g. UserLab programme at ITU, Actinet projects). It leads to informal contacts on different levels, gives especially to young researchers chance to meet other European colleagues of a similar age, in addition to making contact to experts/potential mentors. It enhances a social impact of ACTINET on the whole field of research.
