Actinide interaction with colloids
Status
| Terminated |
- Planned from September 2004 till March 2006 |
Goals
The goal of this joint research project is to investigate actinide interaction with clay colloids, derived from a natural bentonite. The static and dynamic experiments are focused on two aspects:
- colloid filtration processes;
- the kinetics of actinide-colloid interactions.
Expected results
The present experiments will provide an insight into colloid retention mechanisms in fractured host rock and under conditions where colloid relevance on the basis of the groundwater chemistry and existing knowledge is predicted to be very high.
The data are of considerable interest for the reasonable assessment of colloidal processes in nuclear waste repositories. They are also helpful to assess the long-term behaviour of clay type colloids in a natural aquifer.
