Reaction of Np(V) with mineral surfaces - characterisation of reaction products by atomic force microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

Goals

The goal of this joint research project is to obtain a mechanistic understanding of the surface processes that are responsible for “classical” sorption behaviour. In particular, the interaction between the NpO2+ - calcite system and mineral surfaces will be explored, by linking sorption experiments to surface imaging and analysis.

Expected results

This joint research project provides data of a fundamental nature. However, its results will also underpin the assessments of radionuclide transport and its environmental impact.
