Interaction of Eu(III)/Cm(III) with Polyacrylic Acid: Investigation of properties and comparison with actinide humic susbtances interaction
Status
| Terminated |
- Planned from March 2005 till September 2006 |
Goals
The goal of this joint research project is to study the interaction of trivalent curium and europium (M(III)) with polyacrylic acid (PAA). PAA is studied as a model for some properties of natural humic acid. These properties focus on (i) the interaction with trivalent actinides (and lanthanides), (ii) their sorption on minerals, including the impact of metal loading, and (iii) the interaction properties of mineral sorbed PAA.
Expected results
An improved process understanding of the impact of humic substances on actinide migration increases the capability to resolve the issue of nuclear waste disposal (which is currently perceived as the main obstacle for continued use of nuclear energy in the European energy mix).
