Neptunium interaction with green rust (Fe(II), Fe(III)-sulfate, hydroxide)
Status
| Terminated |
- Planned from April 2005 till April 2006 |
Goals
The key objectives of this joint research project are:
- to define the mechanism(s) controlling Np uptake by green rust (GR);
- to characterise changes in particle morphology, structure and composition during Np(V) reduction to Np(IV);
- to determine the implications of these changes on colloid behaviour.
In addition, a method and an experience base for the Ac-GR system will also be developed. They will be used to simplify the interpretation of the results from future investigations of:
- other phases in the GR mineral family
- U and Pu uptake.
Expected results
The results of this joint research project will contribute to the improvement of the database for the risk assessment of geological waste disposal.
