Spectroscopy and Quantum Chemistry applied to Surface Reactions of Actinides on Aluminum Oxy-Hydroxides
Status
| Terminated |
- Planned from March 2005 till August 2006 |
Goals
The aim of this joint research project is to combine spectroscopic speciation methods and predictive quantum chemical (QC) computations to obtain reliable information on the structure of surface sorbed actinide complexes (in relation to the structure and orientation of the crystallographic faces of the substrates).
Expected results
The results of this joint research project will contribute to:
- the establishment of a community, that links surface spectroscopy, quantum chemical modeling and surface reactivity;
- the knowledge on surface reactions and surface species involving actinides;
- the accurate data on surface complexation, required for Performance Assessment;
- an improved knowledge on sorption processes and constants, involved in reactive transport codes;
- an improved understanding of the chemical reactivity of actinides towards mineral surfaces, found in corrosion products, backfill and host rocks.
