A separate effects study of the behaviour of helium in uranium dioxide

Goals
The main goal of this joint research project is to generate a comprehensive set of basic physical data, relative to the behaviour of helium in uranium dioxide. In particular, the aim is to study the consequences of temperature and radiation on the diffusional properties of helium in uranium dioxide.
Expected results
The results of this joint research project are essential for the modelling of fuel behaviour (diffusion coefficients, irradiation effects, etc.) under all operating conditions (including long term storage situations). The actual models, which have been developed to interpret experimental results, can also be adapted for in-reactor data.
