Optimization of quantitative analysis for advanced nuclear fuels by electron probe micro analysis (EPMA)
Status
| Terminated |
- Planned from January 2006 till June 2007 |
Goals
The goal of this joint research project is to build an analytical network of methodologies & knowledge to develop a set of reliable and quantitative analytical methods on irradiated materials. The constitution of such a network allows to:
- master the chemical quantification of solid irradiated materials (especially light elements in actinides), in support of material behaviour tests and thermodynamic reactivity simulations;
- review physical parameters, introduced in simulation codes;
- propose a programme of interlaboratory round robin tests, adapted to nuclear materials;
- identify and propose a new campaign for the measurement of the strategic parameters of Uranium or Thorium materials;
- evaluate the capability of the standardless analysis method for actinide materials.
Expected results
The results of this research project will contribute to:
- the constitution of an analytical efficient and practical network, especially towards young researchers;
- the support of EPR, HTR, GFR, nuclear research reactor- and waste studies (with reliable results irradiated material studies);
- the improvement of the accessibility of actinide facilities for complementary analysis (SIMS, XPS, AES);
- the coordination of analytical development in the field of nuclear analysis;
- the capability of asking specific nuclear developments to the suppliers;
- the ISO quality certification for nuclear analytical laboratory with the constitution of reference standard samples.
