The Chalmers Technical University (CHALMERS) was founded in 1829 and transformed into an independent foundation in 1994. Meanwhile more than 10,000 people, including over 8,000 undergraduates, work and study at CHALMERS.
CHALMERS is a multifaceted academic and postgraduate university that conducts research and education across a wide front within the areas of technology, natural science and architecture in a context of responsibility, equality, diversity, respect and openness.
The research of its Department of Nuclear Chemistry covers a wide range of topics:
- studies of the heaviest elements (trans-actinides)
- severe Reactor Accidents
- basic Actinide Chemistry
- repositories for spent nuclear fuel
- modelling (uncertainty analysis, solid solution and geochemical)
CHALMERS contributes to the ACTINET-Network of Excellence as a contactor, having the possibility and the experience for handling high amounts of alpha-active element. Furthermore, CHALMERS has the only alpha-laboratory in the Nordic countries, where gram-amounts of alpha-active elements can be handled.
