The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Charles University in Prague is, besides education activities, one of the most prominent research establishments of the Czech Republic. The group belonging to the Department of Electronic Structures has been dealing with actinides since the 1970’s. It contributed to the current level of understanding of magnetism of light actinides in relation to their electronic structure, including the key notions as hybridization-induced exchange and related exchange anisotropy, giant magnetoresistance in uranium compounds. A more recent research topic is the electronic structure of Pu systems and hydrides of complex uranium intermetallics.
