Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research of Polish Academy of Sciences |
The Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Wroc³aw, Poland, unites both the physicists and chemists engaged in the solid state research, material science and low-temperature physics. In major part the activity of the Institute is devoted to the basic research aiming at explanation of various correlations between the structure and physical properties of the solids especially in the low-temperature range.
In the Institute there are two Experimental Departments in which the investigations on the electronic structure as well as on the magnetic and electronic transport properties of the actinides, but particularly on binary and ternary compounds of thorium and uranium, have been continued till now, starting after moving a group from the Technical University in Wroc³aw in 1966, where already at the beginning of 1950's such studies had been undertaken for the first time in the world. Thus they showed that the magnetically ordered state in many uranium phases is universal. At present due to the cooperation with many other scientific centres in the world this kind of researches has been developed on a large scale.
