The Nuclear Research & consultancy Group (NRG) was established as a Partnership Firm in 1998 through the merger of ECN's (Energy research Centre of the Netherlands) and KEMA's business activities in the nuclear fields.
NRG is the Dutch knowledge centre for nuclear technology with a staff of more than 320. It performs independent research & development and provides studies, consultancy and information services for customers in government organizations, industry and the general public.
Activities within its R&D programs concern:
- the safe, ecological and peaceful application of nuclear technology
- the production of radionuclides for the medical sector, as NRG is the largest producer of these radionuclides in Europe
- the development of technology for advanced nuclear power reactor designs
- the development and application of spin-off technology for the non-nuclear markets.
Furthermore, NRG has a wide experience in irradiation and Post Irradiation Examination (PIE) of nuclear fuels and related nuclear and thermal calculations for such experiments.
The radiological laboratories of the Nuclear Research and consultancy Group are equipped with:
- facilities for preparation and fabrication of radioactive (inorganic) materials for immobilization, transmutation and disposal studies
- extensive preparative tools and equipment for characterisation in controlled as well as non-controlled environments.
Furthermore, NRG specifically contributes to the ACTINET-Network of Excellence, by:
- Call 3 proposal ‘Thermo-chemical modelling of targets for minor actinide transmutation’ (NRG, KTH, ITU)
- Proposal ‘Immobilisation of Np in a zirconolite matrix’ (NRG, SCK, CEA), to be submitted for call 4 (december 2005).
