The Stockholm University has four faculties; Natural sciences, social sciences, humanities and law.

The faculty of natural sciences covers biology, chemistry, geology and mathematics and the physical sciences. Quantum chemistry is a part of the institute of physics. The activities in the quantum chemistry group cover heavy element chemistry, theoretical biochemistry and surface science. The group is internationally recognized in all three fields. In the field of heavy element chemistry the collaboration with the experimental group at KTH headed by prof. Ingmar Grenthe is extensive and has been so for some time. There has always been very strong international research links. A number of students from France have made their Ph. D. studies at the department.
