University of Barcelona (Future member) |
The University of Barcelona is one of Spain’s leading research universities. It has 109 departments and more than 5,000 full-time researchers, technicians and research assistants, most of whom work in the UB’s 249 research groups as recognized and supported by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Government).
The group involved in ACTINET is specialized in radiation physics and formed by people from the Department of Physics (ECM) and the Technical and Scientific Services (a centralized facility of the same University). This group develops basic research in theoretical adiation transport and applied research in fields such as medical physics, material analysis and industrial applications of radiations. The group develops and maintains the general purpose Monte Carlo simulation code PENELOPE (PENetration and ENErgy Loss of Positrons and Electrons), which is distributed by the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency Data Bank.
