Location

Cadarache (France)

Organised by

CEA

Supported by:

Actinet

The ACTINET Summer School 2008 (AnSS’08) associated to the 2008 Plutonium Futures - the Science conference will be organised in the South of France (CEA Cadarache and Marcoule research centres) from July 2nd to 5th, 2008 by the French Atomic Energy Commission (Nuclear Energy Division).

The international conference Plutonium Futures - “The Science” 2008 (http://www.pu2008.org), the 2008 edition of a series of conferences previously held every 3 years in the USA, will be held in Dijon (France) from July 7th to 11th, 2008. At this occasion and for the first time it was proposed to associate to the conference a summer school dedicated to the young scientists and aiming at disseminating knowledge, promoting research on plutonium and developing exchanges between attendees, teachers and researchers.

The European Network for Actinide Sciences ACTINET (http://www.actinet-network.org/) organises a yearly summer school for European attendees with very similar objectives. ACTINET has proposed to sponsor and hold the Summer School under the auspices of its 2008 summer school, enlarging it to non European attendees, especially young scientists attending the Plutonium Futures – The Science conference.

The summer school will give an overview of the properties of plutonium and its compounds, as well as of other actinide elements with a specific focus on nuclear fuels, through thematic lectures, seminar and technical visits (CEA Cadarache and Marcoule research centres). Specific topics will be plutonium among the actinides, plutonium and actinide compounds and solutions, plutonium and actinide fuels behaviour under irradiation, Pu analysis related to nuclear fuel cycle, non proliferation.

Lecturers are invited from internationally leading Universities, Research and Development Laboratories, and industry. The lectures are primarily for post-doctoral scientists and young engineers engaged in the field of plutonium and other actinides sciences, fuels, engineering and technology.

Important: The registration and accommodation during the school are free (covered by the ACTINET grant). Only travelling expenses are the responsibility of the attendees. However, free ground transport will be organised between South of France (AnSS’08) and Dijon (Plutonium Futures - The Science conference).

The number of participants is limited and selection will be done by the scientific committee. All applicants are required to provide a short Curriculum Vitae and a motivation letter (maximum 1 page) used for selection purposes (see application form).
